January 22, 2009

Imhotep's Paul Kearns conducted an interview with bassist/vocalist Wannes Gubbels of the reformed Dutch death metal outfit ASPHYX at last year's Hole In The Sky festival, which was held August 27-30, 2008 in Bergen, Norway. Watch the chat in two parts below.

ASPHYXMartin van Drunen (vocals),Wannes Gubbels (bass/vocals),Paul Baayens (guitar) and Bob Bagchus (drums) — is currently working on a new studio album for a spring/summer release via Century Media Records. According to the band, "The tracks are raw, no-nonsense brutal, doomy and intense as you can expect from ASPHYX. As a bonus, the new album will include a live DVD of the Party.San show [from] 2007, the first reunion show of the band."

ASPHYX last year released a seven-inch EP, "Death the Brutal Way", via Iron Pegasus Records. The single includes the brand new title track plus a cover of CELTIC FROST's "Os Abysmi Vel Daath" from the Swiss legends' "Monotheist" album. Both cuts were recorded in January 2008 at the Harrow studios.

You can listen to "Death the Brutal Way" on the group's MySpace page.
